Stevensons Treasure Island, decide to take up pirating on the local lake. The old rowboat that belongs to Billys grandfather becomes the Hispaniola and the three friends, fearsome pirates. The island in the middle of the lake becomes their Treasure Island. To the highly imaginative Cedric, the line between reality and fantasy soon starts to blur. When Cedric lures Albert out to the island, his wish to finally get even with his tormentor takes a sinister turn.

When Billy and Louise realize that Alberts life might be in danger it is up to them to save him. They manage to put a stop to Cedrics plans and as a result must face the consequences of what they have done. When at the end of vacation Cedric becomes gravely ill with leukemia, Billy not only has to deal with the fact that he might lose his best friend, he also has to confront the hurt and emptiness his parents death have left him with.In this novel for 8-12 year olds, I tackle some tough issues such as coping with loss, bullying, grandparents being primary caregivers for grandchildren, friendship, bad decisions, consequences and serious illness.

I hope I have done this in a sensitive and believable fashion as well as making it an exciting story young people can relate to.
